Col. Kurt Wheeler, a field historian with the Marine Corps History Division, addresses Boys’ State graduates at the State University of New York, Morrisville, N.Y., Tuesday, July 1, 2015. Boys' State is a weeklong program run by the American Legion consisting of approximately 1,100 high school male juniors. The participants are hand selected by guidance counselors across New York and come together to make a faux government body with other males. Wheeler is a Boys’ State alumni. The Marines served as mentors and chaperones for the duration of Boys’ State.
