Backus is a radio technician with Headquarters and Service Company, Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Music has influenced Backus to master any task he takes on and uses it to inspire others on ship to do the same.
