Lt. Col. Curtis Lee Rowland Jr. receives the 1st Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment unit colors from Commander of Group Col. Christopher C. LaNeve in a change of command ceremony on Fort Polk July 1. The passing of the unit colors demonstrates to the Soldiers of the unit that the old commander has passed the mantle of leadership to the new commander, and with this, also passes the loyalty of the Soldiers to their new commander.
