U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Ocean Roberts, a forward observer with Company B, 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, Marine Rotational Force – Darwin, views the impacts of the rounds fired from Australian M777A2 lightweight 155 mm howitzers and Marine Corps 81 mm mortars June 24 during a Fire Support Coordination Exercise at Bradshaw Training Area, Northern Territory, Australia. FSCEX is a bilateral exercise in which Marine and Australian forward observers direct fire from howitzers, mortars and AH-1 Cobra attack helicopters against mock targets. The MRF-D deployment enables Marines to more effectively train, exercise, and operate with their Australian partners, enhances regional security and builds the capacity to respond more rapidly to natural disasters and crises throughout the region.
