Members of the Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 2 (MDSU2), of Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Va., successfully connect the REMUS (Remote Environmental Monitoring UnitS) 600 for deployment. The REMUS series are autonomous underwater vehicles used to detect mines as part of the Fleet Experimentation (FLEX) period one. The FLEX Campaign portion of SPS-JHSV 15 examines the composition, transport, deployment and employment of mission enabling Adaptive Force Packages (AFPs) and associated command and control constructs and their ability to support various missions. U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command and U.S. 4th Fleet employ maritime forces in cooperative maritime security operations in order to maintain access, enhance interoperability and build enduring partnerships that foster regional security in the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility.
