Capt. James M. Regan (center), master of the USNS Spearhead (JHSV-1), conducts a safety brief to Military Sealift Command (MSC) and Southern Partnership Station 2015 (SPS-JHSV 2015) crew members prior to the execution of Fleet Experimentation (FLEX) period one. The FLEX Campaign portion of SPS-JHSV 15 examines the composition, transport, deployment and employment of mission enabling Adaptive Force Packages (AFPs) and associated command and control constructs and their ability to support various missions. U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command and U.S. 4th Fleet employ maritime forces in cooperative maritime security operations in order to maintain access, enhance interoperability and build enduring partnerships that foster regional security in the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility.
