U.S. Navy Hospital Mate 2nd Class Haley Williams, 271st Marine Wing Support Squadron, 2nd Marine Air Wing, out of Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., helps remove the contact lens of U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Louis “Joey” Hedbery, 610th Security Forces Squadron out of Carswell Air Force Base, Texas, and Stephenville, Texas native, at the Gabriela Mistral primary school construction site in Ocotes Alto, Honduras, June 13, 2015. Cement dust floated into Hedbury’s eye and the contact lens had to be removed in order to flush it out. Hedbury is working hand in hand with his Honduran counterparts from the Honduras Amry’s 15th Battalion to provide security during the New Horizons Honduras 2015 training exercise.
New Horizons was launched in the 1980s and is an annual joint humanitarian assistance exercise that U.S. Southern Command conducts with a partner nation in Central America, South America or the Caribbean. The exercise improves joint training readiness of U.S. and partner nation civil engineers, medical professionals and support personnel through humanitarian assistance activities.
