The Fleet Forces Jazz Ensemble plays for an audience of locals and tourists at the 24th Street stage on the oceanfront of Virginia Beach, Aug. 25. The Fleet Jazz Ensemble, led by Chief Petty Officer Roy Brown, is an 18 member jazz ensemble performing many diverse styles within the jazz idiom. The band's repertoire ranges from the timeless classics of big band swing by Count Basie and Duke Ellington to the exciting contemporary jazz literature of Bob Florence and Gordon Goodwin. Although the majority of the ensemble's performances are public concerts and jazz festivals, the Fleet Jazz Ensemble also performs for high school and college student clinics, master classes and military dances.
