Sgt. Hazim, an Iraqi mortar instructor, signals a mortarman to properly align aiming stakes during an 81mm mortar live fire exercise near Nasiriyah, Iraq, Aug. 24. The instructor from the Camp Dhi Qar Regional Training Facility trained 39 members from 1st Battalion, 40th Iraqi Army brigade who fired their first round at the event. The mortars provide indirect fire capability for Iraqi infantry assigned to 1st Battalion, 40th Iraqi Army brigade. The 40th IA brigade is partnered with the 1st Battalion, 77th Armor Regiment "Steel Tigers" deployed from Fort Bliss, Texas. Artillery staff from 4th Brigade, 1st Armored Division observed the training.
