Richard Nowatzki, left, who served on board the aircraft carrier USS Hornet (CV 8) during the 1942 Battle of Midway, along with amphibious assault ship USS America’s (LHA 6) senior leadership, prepares to speak to the crew on the 73rd anniversary of the event. Nowatzki was on board the Hornet during the battle until it was sunk by Japanese bomber planes later in the war. America is the first ship of its class and is optimized for Marine Corps aviation.
