Army Capt. Julie Bridges, MEDFLAG 09 participant and Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine nurse, spends time with children from the Emmanuel Khayalethu Orphanage in Motjane, Swaziland, Aug. 14. U.S. service members, participating in exercise MEDFLAG 09 visited and donated 6,200 South African Rand ($800) in food and toys to the orphanage. In partnership with the Umbutfo Swaziland defence force, U.S. Army Africa conducted a military medical exercise, MEDFLAG 09, in Swaziland from, Aug. 3-14. Both U.S. And Swazi military personnel conducted training in disaster medical planning and operations, a mass casualty exercise and humanitarian and civic outreach to local communities.
