Royal Marines and U.S. Marines climb the Carpathians

British Royal Marine Commando Andrew Crossey (top) and British Royal Marine Commando Andrew Slater (bottom) demonstrate to U.S. Marines the importance of a brakeman by having a commando completely let go of the rope so the brakeman could stop the free fall. The Royal Marine free fell for approximately ten feet before the brakeman stopped the descent. Platinum Lynx is a multilateral two-week exercise in the mountains of Romania. Royal Marine Commandos from the United Kingdom, U.S. Marines with Black Sea Rotational Force and the Romanian Mountain Brigade climbed various cliff faces utilizing different techniques that each country specializes in.
