JoAnn Lyles (right) visits with Marines of 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, who were close friends of her son, Lance Cpl. Jordan C. Haerter, who died while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom and was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism. The Marines of 1/9 traveled to Sag Harbor, N.Y., to participate in the Second Annual Soldier Ride – The Hamptons, July 25, which was dedicated to the memory of Haerter this year to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project.
