MCGHEE TYSON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Tenn. - Master Sgt. Mike R. Smith pumps gasoline here May 19, 2015, at the Base Exchange to stress the importance of gasoline safety for the 101 days of summer. The National Gasoline Safety Project estimates that more than 1,500 children are injured or killed by gasoline fires each year. The National Fire Protection Association estimates that other children are killed or injured from ingesting gasoline from makeshift storage containers, like a soda bottle.
