Lance Cpl. Justin Brown trudges through mud and swamp water during the “Pit and Pond” obstacle as he runs through the endurance course April 19 at the Jungle Warfare Training Center, Okinawa, Japan. The Pit and Pond obstacle forces a squad of Marines to crawl beneath barbed and concertina wire with and is just one of the challenges they face in the 30-obstacle course. The endurance course serves as the culminating event for the Marines, building upon what they learned in the previous week during jungle warfare training. Brown is an infantryman with Company L, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment.
