The New Mexico Democrat visited Iraq to learn about the 4th Brigade, 1st Armored Division's advise and assist mission, tour a CERP-funded civilian training complex and meet with U.S. and Iraqi security force leaders at Camp Dhi Qar, an Iraqi base near Nasiriyah. The Highlander Brigade, the first unit to serve in an "advisory and assistance" role, is deployed out of Fort Bliss, Texas, and operates in Dhi Qar, Maysan and Muthanna provinces in southern Iraq.
