1st Lt. John Burt (bottom), of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., inspects a blockage in a canal, while Cpl. Jonathan Tart, of Erwin, N.C., maintains security as a villager and his son watch, in the Radwiniyah district south of Baghdad, Aug. 6. Burt spoke to villagers and looked to see what was blocking the canals from flowing properly during an Iraqi and U.S. joint patrol. The Soldiers are with Company D, 252nd Combined Arms Battalion, 30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team, and were in the area to examine irrigation canals for a possible clearing project to bring a better water system to people living in the rural villages of the area.
