The Reusable Energy Attenuating Lab (REAL) Seat can be used to simulate various crashworthy seating systems in sled testing. It allows testers to conduct a series of fully-instrumented simulated crashes on Naval Air Systems Command's horizontal accelerator for a fraction of the cost of one test with an actual aircraft seat. Multiple tests of equipment to be worn by aircrew using REAL Seat ensure that when final tests of the equipment are done using an actual aircraft seat, the equipment is optimized and performs as expected.
