Robert Dutill, a World War II veteran from Williams, Calif., raises the 48-star flag at a ceremony May 5 commemorating the liberation of Obersalzburg, Germany. Dutill was with the 3rd Infantry Division when the flag was raised 70 years earlier after the division had peacefully liberated the town. The flag has 48 stars because, at the time, Alaska and Hawaii had not yet been admitted to the U.S.
