Lance Cpl. Zachary Danney, a Deltona, Florida, native, gathers up sticks on the edge of the evacuation route to the Togezudaru community, near Gate 4 on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, April 22. The once forgotten route was cleared by Marines from the 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, with the help from other Marine volunteers and Okinawa residents. The road provides a quicker, more efficient route for residents to get to safety in the event of a natural disaster. The old route required residents to walk through lower lying areas that would most likely flood during a natural disaster. Danney is a meteorology and oceanography specialist with the 3rd Intelligence Battalion, III Marine Headquarters Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
