Brent Canady, commanding officer of the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Essex, observe flight operations aboard Essex during exercise Talisman Saber 2009. Crane visited Essex to discuss U.S.-Australian interoperability and directly observe exercise activities. Talisman Saber is a biennial joint military exercise between the U.S. and Australia focusing on operational and tactical interoperability.
