Russ Crane, Australian navy chief of navy, and Australian army Lt. Gen. David Hurley, vice chief of the Australian defense force, observe the launch of an AV-8B Harrier aircraft aboard Essex during exercise Talisman Saber 2009. Crane visited Essex to discuss U.S.-Australian interoperability and directly observe exercise activities. Talisman Saber is a biennial joint military exercise between the U.S. and Australia focusing on operational and tactical interoperability.
