Pfc. Brandon Swanger, a mortarman with 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, checks and adjusts an 81 mm mortar’s aim during a live-fire range aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C., April 21-22, 2015. To ensure their readiness, these mortarmen practice their proficiency with the 60 mm and 81 mm mortar systems on a monthly basis. In a deployed environment, these two weapon systems are key assets to the infantry because of their ability to suppress the enemy in a timely and effective manner due to its firepower and mobility.
