The U.S. Coast Guard Maritime Security Response Team out of the Chesapeake, Va., area conducts a short notice maritime response training exercise in Mackinaw City, Mich., April 19, 2015. During the exercise, unidentified hostile forces seize a merchant ship. The MSRT conducts hostile ship boarding and retake. This event kicks off Arctic Eagle, a Michigan National Guard training exercise that takes place at Camp Grayling, Rockport State Park and Mackinaw City. Arctic Eagle is a joint service and multi-national exercise, based on the U.S. and Denmark National Strategies for the Arctic, addressing the defense of critical infrastructure within the Arctic Circle. The exercise supports the president’s and Department of Defense national strategy for the Arctic and is being conducted in the current constrained fiscal environment without the expenditure of additional dollars.
