PACIFIC OCEAN (April 15, 2015) - Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class Andrew Spears, a native of Proctorville, Ohio, and Boatswain's Mate 3rd Class Zachary Greig, a native of Caldwell, Texas, signal to set the brake in the forecastle of the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) while dropping the anchor. Makin Island is underway off the coast of Southern California conducting an ammunition offload in preparation for a scheduled phased maintenance availability at Naval Base San Diego.
