A 154,000 pound Manitowoc crane is lifted off the deck of the Military Sealift Command crane ship SS Cornhusker State (T-ACS 6). The crane will be used to build an elevated causeway system during the exercise Joint Logistics Over The Shore 09. JLOTS is a critical capability that allows the military to move forces and supplies without the benefit of a fixed, deep-draft port. The exercise will demonstrate the Navy, Army and Marine Corps ability to deploy, discharge and conduct reception and staging of equipment in a scenario that requires ships to offload while still offshore.
