U.S. Marine Master Sgt. Klever Novillo, the logistics chief for III Marine Expeditionary Force, explains to 11-year old Rockhampton resident Sophia Reid how the M40 Gas Mask works at the city's Open Day celebration, which welcomed visiting U.S. armed forces participating in Exercise Talisman Saber 2009. The gas mask display was just one of more than 15 attractions that local citizens had the opportunity to admire during the celebration, which included many other Australian Defense Force and U.S. armed forces military equipment and personnel. TS09 is a biennial combined training activity, designed to train Australian and U.S. forces in planning and conducting combined task force operations, which will help improve Australian Defense Force and U.S. combat readiness and inter-operability.
