Spc. Elizabeth Ramirez, a mental health specialist with Headquarters Company, 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade, starts the last leg of the final ruck march event on the last day of the annual New York Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition March 29, 2015, at Camp Smith Training Site, near Peekskill, N.Y. The ruck march event was also included as part of the testing for the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge, requiring them to ruck 12 km. in under two hours. The competitors were given a chance to earn the badge for the first time in the Best Warrior competition. The Best Warrior competitors represent each of New York's brigades after winning competitions at the company, battalion and brigade levels. At the state level they are tested on their physical fitness, military knowledge, endurance, marksmanship and land navigation skills.
