In recognition of National Medal of Honor Day, Arlington National Cemetery hosted a special guided tour of Arlington National Cemetery focusing on Medal of Honor recipients buried at Arlington, as well as the history of the Medal of Honor. In this image, ANC's Operation Officer, Warren McFarland, and ANC Historian Tim Frank narrate the tour. The Medal of Honor was first authorized in 1861 for Sailors and Marines, and the following year for Soldiers as well. Since then, only 3,493 Medals of Honor have been awarded to members of all services. The first award of the Medal of Honor was made March 25, 1863, to Pvt. Jacob Parrott. (Photo by Stephen Smith)
