Retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Sammy L. Davis, a Medal of Honor recipient, plays “Shenandoah” on a harmonica during the invocation for the USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore’s 33rd Annual Awards Dinner in Washington D.C., March 24, 2015. The song holds special meaning for Davis, as his sergeant in Vietnam asked him to learn how to play it because it renewed his spirit and gave his heart hope; his sergeant was later killed and now Davis plays the song in tribute.
