Cpl. Brian P. McLaughlin gasps for air during a find the rebar challenge March 20 at Camp Hansen, Okinawa. The event challenged teams to race against each other to see who could find a piece of rebar inside the concrete block. The challenge was part of 9th Engineer Support Battalion’s St. Patrick’s Day Engineer field meet, which consisted of several events focused on engineering skills, physical strength and endurance. Engineers from across Okinawa participated in the event while building camaraderie through competition. They also celebrated military engineers’ patron saint, St. Patrick. McLaughlin is a Wampum, Pa., native and a refrigeration and air conditioning technician with Marine Wing Support Squadron 172, Marine Wing Support Group 17, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
