Youth Challenge Academy cadets and guests attending the women’s history celebration hosted by the S.C. Historic Aviation Foundation, March 14, 2015, Columbia, S.C. Trowell-Harris was the honored guest at the event, as she is the first African-American woman to be promoted to the rank of general officer in the National Guard, and has received numerous awards and decorations for her achievements in aviation and nursing.
