Staff Sgt. Kristopher Renno, red belt, and Sgt. 1st Class Eric Fernandez compete during the combatives portion of the Non-commissioned Officer of the Year competition. Renno, who has been an NCO for eight years, believes being an NCO means that "I get to influence troops on a daily basis. Being an NCO is a great opportunity for me to actually aid in where the junior leaders of the Army are going."
