Airmen from the 176th Wing, Alaska Air National Guard, load a palletized arctic sustainment package, rigged with a parachute system, into the back of a C-130 Hercules aircraft from the 144th Airlift Squadron during Exercise Spartan Pegasus, on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Feb. 24. Spartan Pegasus is a multi-component, joint exercise that will further refine planning and mission capabilities between the U.S. Army, the U.S. Air Force, the Alaska National Guard, and the state of Alaska. The AST, which is used by members of the 212th Rescue Squadron to sustain multiple people exposed to arctic conditions during emergencies, was dropped during an airborne operation over Deadhorse, as part of the exercise.
