Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island

Rct. Allison R. Herbert, front, and Rct. Stephanie V. Jones, both with Platoon 4005, November Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, count linen at the depot laundry facility during team week Jan. 13, 2015, on Parris Island, S.C. Team week, the sixth week of training, allows recruits to work in small groups with minimal supervision and develop leadership skills while also providing a respite from the previous five weeks of constant training. Herbert, 19, from Canisteo, N.Y., and Jones, 19, from New Lenox, Ill., are scheduled to graduate Feb. 13, 2015. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Pfc. Vanessa Austin)
