    III Marine Expeditionary Force

Japan Self Defense Force Col. Yuda sits in the cockpit of an MV-22B Osprey Feb. 6 on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma. Yuda is a member of the Japanese Observer Exchange Program. Yuda, along with the other members of the JOEP, learned about the unique abilities of the Osprey. The Osprey can perform both vertical and short take-offs and landings, giving it access to difficult landing zones where fixed-winged aircraft can’t land. JOEP gives Japan Self Defense Force members the opportunity to learn about the U.S. Marine Corps and how it operates. The aircraft is with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Reinforced), Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force. (U.S. Marine Corps Photo by Cpl. Thor J.
