Sailors assigned to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan man the rails as they leave their home port San Diego for deployment. Manning the rails is a U.S. Navy-wide tradition to honor those who were left behind to await the ship's return. Reagan is underway on a routine deployment to the Western Pacific.
