Drill Instructor Sgt. Stephan Bacchus, Platoon 3001, India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, presents one of his recruits with an Eagle, Globe and Anchor emblem and calls him Marine for the first time Jan. 14, 2015, on Parris Island, S.C. The recruits worked for more than 12 weeks for this moment. The Eagle, Globe and Anchor emblem is earned only by those who are imbued with the Corps’ core values and have proven themselves worthy of belonging to the few and the proud. Bacchus, 23, is from East Stroudsburg, Pa. India Company is scheduled to graduate Jan. 23, 2015. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
