Soldiers of 36th Engineer Brigade, inspect the distance remaining markers at the Roberts International Airport, Jan. 18, 2015, during Operation United Assistance. Sgt. Joel Miick, left, an Austin, Texas, native, and a surveyor of Technical Headquarters Section, Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 36th Eng. Bde., said his team designed the DRM so pilots are able to locate the signs on the runway. The runway received a lot of wear because pilots break hard creating potholes and skid marks. As soon as the DRMs were in place, Miick said his team saw improvement immediately. The DRMs will make transporting Soldiers and equipment out of Liberia safer. Operation United Assistance is a Department of Defense operation in Liberia to provide logistics, training and engineering support to U.S. Agency for International Development-led efforts to contain the Ebola virus outbreak in western Africa.
