U.S. Navy Capt. William Hood, Director Religious Affairs, Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, presents an award to Mr. Hamad Shankandi, Contractor, HamCon Construction, at the Mapajoni Primary School Dedication Ceremony in Tanzania on May 14. The Mapajoni Primary School project was funded by Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa and included the rehabilitation of seven existing classrooms, completion of a partially constructed classroom, repair of the teacher's office, in addition to a new teacher's house and renovated latrines. The primary school will support 554 students from five villages as far as 6 kilometers away. The service members of CJTF-HOA, headquartered in Djibouti, employ an indirect approach to counter violent extremism. Through a strategy of cooperative conflict prevention the task force helps build the internal capacities of countries at risk to prevail against extremists exploiting instability.
