Drill Instructor Sgt. Eduardo Bonilla, Platoon 1012, Bravo Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, reviews a close-order drill card during an initial drill evaluation Dec. 8, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. Drill cards list the sequence of commands and are considered part of the uniform. Drillmasters, experts on the Marine Corps Drill and Ceremonies manual, graded Bonilla, 24, from Lakewood, Colo., on his military appearance and ability to command his platoon. Bravo Company is scheduled to graduate Jan. 30, 2015. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
