Participants of the annual Makahiki festival begin the event with the arrival of Lono, a deified guardian of agriculture, rain, health and peace, to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The Makahiki, known as a “Hawaiian Thanksgiving,” provided the opportunity for military families to appreciate and learn more about the culture and history of Hawaii.
