The heat distortion of the muzzle blast sends a round from a U.S. Army M1A2 Abrams tank streaking downrange at the Adazi Training Area, Latvia, Nov. 13, 2014. The tank was part of a combined U.S.-Norwegian live-fire exercise, which was observed by members of the Latvian army and which included Norwegian and U.S. infantry fighting vehicles, combat engineers, and Norwegian light infantry. The exercise was part of the U.S. Army Europe-led Operation Atlantic Resolve land force assurance training exercise taking place across Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland to enhance multinational interoperability, strengthen relationships among allied militaries, contribute to regional stability and demonstrate U.S. commitment to NATO.
