Private 1st Class Kris Schaller, of the 817th Engineer Company, center with sandbag, takes his place in a human chain as he passes sandbags from one soldier to another April 8, Valley City, N.D. The sandbags are being positioned to create a temporary levee along the rising flood water of the Sheyenne River. Schaller lives in Fargo, N.D., and has recently been fighting floods along the Red River.
