Japan Ground Self-Defense Force service members explain the vehicles and equipment available for disaster response to Tetsuji Matsumoto, second from right, Maj. Gen. Charles L. Hudson, center, and other distinguished visitors at the JGSDF 15th Brigade static display Oct. 28 during Exercise Constant Vigilance 2014 here. The annual exercise prepares U.S. forces, the local and prefectural government, civilians, emergency personnel and the Okinawa-based Japan Self Defense Force to work side-by-side in response and recovery efforts following a catastrophic natural disaster. Following the exercise, participants are able to refine their tactics, techniques, and procedures, which ultimately lead to faster and more coordinated response capabilities and potentially more lives being saved. Matsumoto is the mayor of Urasoe City. Hudson is the commanding general of MCIPAC-Marine Corp Base, Camp Butler Japan. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Matthew Manning/Released)
