Marines with 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment conduct knotting, Special Patrol Insertion/ Extraction (SPIE) rigging, and rappelling techniques during a recent Helicopter Rope Suspension Technique (HRST) masters course aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Oct. 13-24, 2014. HRST techniques allow ground troops to be easily inserted into environments not fit for conventional aircraft landings.
