Gen. James F. Amos, commandant of the Marine Corps, presents a Legion of Merit to Gen. Kiyofumi Iwata, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Chief, during a ceremony at Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., Oct. 14. This is of particular importance as Japan undergoes significant fundamental changes to their national defense policies, and the establishment of an amphibious crisis response capability by 2017.
