Kazakhstani Peacekeeping Battalion soldiers patrol an administrative boundary line during exercise Steppe Eagle 2014, Oct. 11 at the Joint Multinational Readiness Training Center here. As the KAZBAT advanced toward the simulated border, they coordinated with the foreign military police to conduct a joint patrol, securing the area. A group of civilians were found on the wrong side of the border by the joint patrol. The two armed forces agreed to detain the men until they were properly identified. This is the first year the Steppe Eagle exercise is being conducted outside of Kazakhstan, allowing the KAZBAT to validate their capacity to deploy to peacekeeping operations outside of their country.
