Sailors assigned to Pre-Commissioning Unit Makin Island run launch and recovery drills during rigid hull inflatable boat training conducted by instructor Steve Wigely. Although the course is provided by Marine Rescue Consultants, LLC, students use rigid hull inflatable boat from Makin Island to practice techniques such as small boat towing, maneuvering and personnel pick-up. All prospective rigid hull inflatable boat crewmen, including deck department personnel, coxswains, engineers and rescue swimmers, are required to take the class.
