Rct. John McCoubrie IV, Platoon 1076, Bravo Company 1st Recruit Training Battalion, controls his breathing during marksmanship training Sept. 9, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. Recruits are taught to fire during the natural respiratory pause between breaths. Marine recruits spend two weeks learning and applying marksmanship fundamentals, longer than any other United States branch of service, to carry on the tradition of every Marine a rifleman. The Marine Corps is the only branch that teaches entry-level recruits to fire at 500 yards. McCoubrie, an 18-year-old native of Philadelphia, is scheduled to graduate Oct. 17, 2014. (Photo by Cpl.
